No Time.

Time.

What an interesting concept.

We created a unit of measure to count the days as they pass.    Then we eventually use it to set a schedule in the future, so we know what “we have to do and when”.     Now, it seems to be a driving force.

Of course for the sake of society, time is useful.    Some people need a push to drive them.   It helps us all to have a standard to follow so that schedules can be made and we can get where we want to go/others need us to be.   Essentially it’s very useful for Travel and Business and making sure we meet when we say we do.

“I’m too busy”, “I have no time”, the one I heard from parents frequently “WE have GOT TO hurry, or else WE WILL BE LATE!” These may or may not be typical of phrases others have heard or said.

I once heard that time and being on time can be a type of fetish.    Who can show up the earliest and be done first, can become a game.

But does it all matter?    What if you do miss everything?   What if you do miss your appointments?    What if you don’t care what time it is.   What if you don’t have any appointments or don’t care if you do miss them?

clock no face

Some people are in just of a hurry to leave a party as get their on time.    Watching the clock tick becomes the experience, instead of what ever we are doing.

If you can tame time, as just a unit of measure and not a unit of YOUR measure.   You can start to own it, and you will have all the time you need on this planet to do everything you always wanted to do.    You can learn to enjoy what’s happening rather than when it’s all over or when you have to get there.    And aren’t the experiences what life is all about, not how much time you spent doing it?

E’s words for the day:  Ignoring time can be difficult, but if you can control it rather than let it control you, it will makes your life experiences timeless.

Taming the bear…

Mondays…

Most days of the week don’t mean a whole lot to me.   Actually, most days in general are just another day.    I don’t focus my mind on the time of the day or on which day on the calendar it is…   but I certainly know when it’s Monday.

My job is pretty 9-5 M-F.   And, after my two days of glorious freedom, I’m back in a 12 by 8 office that serves as my home away from home.  I do a lot of good things here, but often it still feels like I am working towards the end of the long day.    And Monday’s tend to feel like the longest, for me.

I have a bit of a bear personality, that lives in side of me.    Loyal and chill most of the time, but on Monday’s, I can tend to be a bit…   growly and easily irritated…

I’m aware of my nature but others certainly can’t always be, and they certainly aren’t looking for someone with an uneven keel because it’s the start of the week.

I overcome a lot of it by being more reflective and peaceful on Mondays, and easing myself into the rest of the week.     I try to be more passive and observant on these days, rather than run in and trying to be something I am not, I accept what I am and what I am not.

I am a bear at times.   I am NOT a Monday person.   (Irony: I was born on a Monday).

Although the idea of having an inner wild animal that can become zen instantly is very quaint, it has often been very difficult for me, at times.   Meditation and self reflection has aided me quite a bit.

No matter how tame a wild animal can seem to be, they can always let loose and be unpredictable.    This is naturally, just the way it is in the wild, but certainly this is NOT appropriate for our day to day lives.

It’s often easier for me to see how everything else fits together in nature, than to figure out my own place in this world.    But, when I actually retreat out into world…   and sit in the grass, feel the sun on me or the breeze, I instantly am more peaceful.    My inner bear, can run free and wild, and I let it.

Without even practicing any meditation techniques or anything, just by merely enjoying all that nature has to offer makes me feel better.    (A very difficult thing to accept in the technological age).   But, meditation, fresh air, seeing and hearing the birds, smelling the flowers, seeing the critters, etc.   It all adds up to just another day.    Nothing special about Monday’s, good or bad.

Taking it all in, I come back more serene and relaxed…    but still ready for Tuesday….

E’s words for the day:  Is inner peace or world peace more difficult?   Find it within and you won’t help but see it all around you.

Here comes the sun…

As I mentioned in my post yesterday sitting on my front porch and catching the first morning rays of the sun is one of my favorite parts of the weekend.

I believe the sun is a giver of life and the benefits of soaking it up are unending.

And then yesterday… no sun…

An inside day.

But with most things, if they are meant to come back, they do.

And today it’s paying off in spades. A bright warm sunny morning.

It is so perfect. It feels like it was made just for me.

In order to get to the good days some times we have to wade through the bad. Balance is desirable but it is often hard to “understand” its power when we are on the rainy side.

Don’t worry. Sunny days, good times and even the order in the universe is based on balance… so unfortunately rain and clouds, hard times and even chaos are necessary to even have enjoyable times.

Be prepared for anything and accept balance.

E’s words for the day: High highs carry with them low lows. The more balanced you are, the more balanced your world be.

Cloudy daze…

I look forward to the weekend. As we all should. One of my favorite Saturday morning activities in the summer is sitting on my porch and soaking up those morning rays.

Today is not one of those days.

No sun. Clouds.

Does this ruin my day completely?

Haha, of course not.

We live in a universe where our needs our constantly being fulfilled and our wants are left up to us.

Looking around outside, I see hundreds of animals and insects, thousands of trees, and millions of blades of grass. They sit in the sun all day and they need water to survive.

The clouds are to give them some shade from the constant summer sun and heat. And the rain that comes with the clouds quench their constant thirst.

I must accept that in order to have the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees, we must take the cloudy rainy days with the sun bright ones.

That’s what keeps it all working.

E’s words for the day: Would you rather a day without sun or a life without birds and trees?

From Watched to Watcher

Society preconditions many of us to feel that there is a “giant eye in the sky” watching us or “the boss is breathing down my neck, watching my every move” or “big brother is reading everything I type online and knows it all”.

To some extent it’s creating a society where we can “feel” we are being watched.    And when we feel we are being watched, we modify our behaviors as if we are being watched.

It leads to the old adage…   “dance as if there is no one watching…”.

It is not all bad.    A large amount of safety exists in a watchful eye looking over us.   It feels good, as children our parents watch over us and our teachers watch over us and guide us into adulthood.

But, on the other extreme, we may get instilled with the belief that we are ALWAYS being watched and not by people guiding us in a positive direction….or in the direction we want for ourselves.    This can lead to lots of inner turmoil and paranoid feelings.

The comfort of being watched can lead to the prison that is being watched too much.    Watched by your peers, by your coworkers, by big brother, by God, etc.     And if someone is always watching what can we do?

The best thing to do is realize that deep down, you are the observer, not the observed.   All the thoughts in your head and ideas and images and words, are brought in through your senses.

eyes

Of course, watching is done through the eye.    Which many call…   “the gateway to the soul”.

Like most gates, it can keep some things in and somethings out.     From this day on, remember you are the gate keeper.    You are the watcher.    You decide what is seen.    You decide who is worth observing and who isn’t.     Take the responsibility of being the watcher and help others do the same.

The opposite of extremes between the comforting safety and the anxiety of being watched, both come from letting someone else be the responsible one.   When you learn to take your own reins, you realize you are the observer, not the observed.    And this can be a very powerful practice.

E’s words for the day:  A tree will move freely in the breeze as if no one is looking.    Shouldn’t we all?

Life stings

Just when you start yourself going onto something good….  (like a new blog to help others…)

You may notice that the universe tries to test you…  (like sending a wasp to sting your hand…photographic evidence below…)

the wasp sting

E…   is this a sign?   Should you quit?    Do you hate life?   Does this ruin your day?

Haha.   There are times in my life in which I would have been very upset about this.   But, let’s broaden the picture and think about it from a perspective outside of me.

I was inside happily blogging on my new blog, got up and walked out to eat lunch outside on a beautiful warm summer day.

I was sitting on a park bench admiring the beautiful nature that was all around me.    I had a smile ear to ear.    Then a tickle on my hand.   As I went to scratch it.

Wham.   Pain.   A wasp gave me the business.

But what about the wasp?   Did what he do have purpose?

I probably was just out sitting on a bench that this very wasp normally flies around and when I went to scratch it…   scared it, and then it did what wasps do…   sting unsuspecting humans trying to kill it or ruin ITS day.

Nothing to be upset about, just a little pain.

With life, sometimes there’s pain involved.

I’d prefer to take the sting, then take the life.

The E Word

Hello, thanks for checking out my new site.

I offer some musings and thoughts.   I will do my best to offer some daily ideas of peace and serenity.    Harmony with nature and each other.

I welcome all readers from all walks of life and hold no beliefs other than the world has a lot of sand to sift through at times, and while we spend our busy life sifting through the sand, we overlook what the world is about.

Jamaica

We forget how the rocks become the dirt.   How the dirt becomes the grass.   How the grass becomes the tree.

Expectations and failures can become pain and bitterness.   Thoughts can over consume our days.

The mighty F word…  can hang our lips…

I hope before you get to carried away with it all, you think about coming to the E word, before using the F word.

Thanks for stopping by…

-E

E’s words for the day:  Negative feelings are like a porcupine, the tighter you try to hold on to them, the more damage you do to yourself.
